Notes:
Help! This Ride Schedule is supplied as a resource for all club members use and enjoyment. There is no set agenda or sanctioned rides, other than those determined by members participation, support and feedback. If Outspokin or the Ride Director doesn't know about a ride that is being promoted as a regular event, it's very hard for us to promote it as a regular event. Email Jim Doane (jdoane1175@msn.com) with what you are doing: where, when, ride level expected, and length. The only requirement is that if you organize a ride, you should be a CVC member. Anyone can participate in a CVC Ride. We will try to support your efforts to make cycling in the Conejo an enjoyable fellowship for all CVCers.
CVC has color coded the recreational rides to describe the level of difficulty.
| Purple | Beginning recreational ride | 12-25 miles at 10-12 mph pace |
| Gold | Intermediate recreational ride | 30-40 miles at 14+ mph pace |
| Red | Advanced recreational ride | 40-50 miles at 16+ mph pace |
CVC Away Rides are normally the second Saturday of each month, and add more adventure and variety to our weekly club outings. CVCers meet at the normal Countrywide parking lot rendezvous at 7:15am to car pool to an away destination of choice. Plans on a reasonably aggressive ride of about 40 to sixty miles at about the normal Hidden Valley loop pace of 14+ mph, with several stops for regrouping. A group lunch/picnic/BBQ is planned to follow before the carpool return to the Conejo. If you have any suggestions for an away ride route, let us know! Normal ride at the Countrywide lot for those CVCers that don't make the trip. Route of your own choosing.
| Purple | It's back! Following a series of successful trial rides, we've
decided to establish a permanent monthly "Purple Ride"
beginning January 2008, with an anticipated start date of 20 January
2008. Ride announcements and route slips will be made available.
RaeLynn Milley has volunteered to be Purple Ride leader until other leader(s) can be established. Ride leader is assisted by two additional experienced riders riding front-back-middle of group. To volunteer to lead purple rides, contact CVC and/or RaeLynn. |
| Red | 1. Goldy's Ride -- 6:45 AM every Sunday. Meet at the corner of Lindero Canyon and Thousand Oaks Blvd. Route varies according to the group. But is usually a 50-60 mile ride at a 17-19 mph pace. Contact Goldy at 805-796-7573 or Kim at Westlake Cyclery at 805-497-3030. |
| Red | 2. Westlake Evening Ride -- Tues & Thur evenings, leaves the Westlake Jamba Juice parking lot at 5:30pm. A moderately aggressive Rec ride of about 20-30 miles at 15-17mph. Routes include Mulholland Hwy, northern Thousand Oaks, out thru Hidden Valley, or other routes as the group decides. Contact Jim Doane for more information. |
| Gold | 3. Agoura Afternoon Ride -- This ride meets at The Landing in Westlake Village (Lindero Canyon Road, near Triunfo Canyon) at 4:15pm sharp for a 25 mile ride at about a 14 mph pace. Typical routes are through Hidden Valley, North Ranch, and Lake Rides. Contact Sheri if you plan to ride so she knows to look for you. |
| Gold | 4. Jan's Westlake Ride -- This ride starts at 5:30 (or whenever... we're not picky) for anyone who is not training. All levels are welcome to join us. This ride is good for anyone who wants to start out with an easy ride around the lake (a flat 5 miles) or maybe something more challenging. A group of us rides out to the end of Hidden Valley (but not up the hill) and back (and then around the lake). We meet on Triunfo, turning west from Lindero, just past the tennis club and yacht club on the grassy area by Westlake lake. Some will just be going around the lake... others of us will be going out to Hidden Valley and back. Contact Jan Grant at 818-706-1708 (after 6pm) for more information about this ride. |
| Red | 5. CVC Red Ride -- starts every Saturday at the Village Glen Plaza in Westlake Village. This is at the corner of Agoura Road and Village Glen, just behind First Bank. This is a more agressive recreational ride. The group rides at about 18-20 mph for a 50-60 mile loop. The ride usually includes at least one of the big climbs in the Santa Monica Mountains. |
| Gold | 6. CVC Gold Ride -- starts every Saturday at the Countrywide parking lot at Wilbur Road and Hillcrest Drive (enter on Wilbur). It is called the Introduction Recreational Ride because it is designed to address a wide variety of cycling interests: from the just curious about group cycling, to our casual group cruisers, to a more aggressive recreational cyclists. This ride usually breaks into three factions of varying speeds and endurance. The curious and casual usually cruise around Westlake Lake; while the more aggressive might charge into North Ranch, Simi, Moorpark, or Hidden Valley; with everyone converging back at Bent on Coffee for after ride commaradier. Join us and sort out the rest of the schedule and calendar from here. |
| Red | 7. CVC Alt Red Ride -- starts every Saturday at the Countrywide parking lot at Wilbur Road and Hillcrest Drive (enter on Wilbur). An alternative red-level level ride leaving Saturday mornings from Thousand Oaks. Routes TBD (watch your email for details), with PCH and canyon climbs a popular choice. |
| Purple | 8. Return of the Purple Ride -- May 18 -- No one gets dropped on this ride, which starts at 9 am. Watch your email for further details to be announced. |
| Gold | 9. Away Ride -- June 14 -- Check your email for updates. |
