There are a few extra alternates to add to this route to increase the challenge. The Fillmore Scenic route takes you through Balcom Canyon proper and the citrus groves just south of Fillmore. There is a good climb up Grimes Canyon as well. A much harder route is to go down Grimes Canyon and come back up the Balcom Canyon Wall.
If there is anything left in your legs, the Erbes Finishing Climb is a great one to polish off this ride.
